Pitch My House Contest Launches to Provide Free Lodging at 2014 SXSW Interactive

Former Austinite Announces 2nd Annual Contest for SXSW Attendees to Receive Free Accommodations

December 6, 2013 – San Francisco, CA – South by Southwest (SXSW) has long been the hub of creativity and innovation. Anne A. Ward, CEO of CircleClick and Editor-in-Chief of MobileFOMO, is committed to inspiring that innovative nature while providing people with a place to stay through her 2nd annual contest, Pitch My House, now accepting proposals for 2014 SXSW Interactive.

Those who submit the best ideas and strategy for building awareness around MobileFOMO, her mobile marketing blog, will win a free place to stay at Ward’s four bedroom, two bathroom house in Austin for up to 7 days during the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival. The winner(s) will be announced mid-February.

Last year Anne received hundreds of submissions, but the proposal that stood out and won the contest was from Funny or Die, a leading comedy website with over 7.6 million Twitter followers. The team pitched a creative Twitter campaign which would document their experience at Ward’s house while also promoting MobileFOMO. Receiving press from a site with such an enormous social media following and also the opportunity to hang out with an eccentric group of comedians was difficult to pass up.

“We had an amazing time in our first year at the pitch house,” says Ward. “Funny or Die was awesome to stay with and we hope they’ll enter again for 2014. However, the contest is wide open, it’s anyone’s game at this point.”

With an estimated 30,000+ registered attendees to partake in SXSW Interactive’s 21st birthday, downtown hotels during the 2014 Interactive portion of the festival sold out in less than a day. The SXSW buzz has been growing in Austin every year, bringing in tens of thousands of people interested in participating or simply experiencing the heartbeat of Austin in March. However, accommodation can be a challenge for many of these folks.

“Hotel rooms in Austin during the festival are always in such short supply. Pitchmyhouse.com felt like a return to Austin’s roots. SXSW used to be a meeting of the minds, where ideas would just flow,” explains Ward, a native of Austin. “Now it has become a place to hawk your wares. The festival has lost that sense of community and spark of innovation. I want to mobilize a team of talented people and really have fun with it.”

Outline of the Contest and Rules:

  1. The house is located 6.5 miles from the Austin convention center. This means you can travel to SXSW via bike, public transit, or driving. Free parking if you get a rental car.
  2. Free wifi
  3. Free continental breakfast. To make sure you’re getting your day off to a great start someone will be bringing you delicious breakfast tacos or donuts, perhaps both? Food allergies will be taken into consideration.
  4. A spacious place to sleep. There will be a couch, air mattress, futon or cot depending on the number of folks staying at the house. Also towels, soap and a big back yard for when you are not at parties to do your deep thinking or barbecuing in. Limited time offer. Ward reserves the right to refuse any entry for any reason. Teams of up to six are allowed to enter. Winners must provide a valid driver’s license, be 21 years of age or older and provide rthree personal references. No big parties, no Austin locals, no additional overnight guests allowed, no renting the space to others and NO PETS! Any damage made to the property will be your responsibility. Put your creativity hats on and good luck!

ABOUT MOBILEFOMO

MobileFOMO began in November of 2012 when founder Anne A. Ward noticed that most online tech magazines covering ‘mobile’ are covering the basic aspects such as hardware, apps, etc. We think this coverage is great, but there is a whole world of possibility out there for the mobile marketer of today. FOMO has got your back. MobileFOMO was founded in late 2012 with the assumption that mobile marketing is going to be big (it already is) and we don’t want anyone to feel held back by a Fear Of Missing Out, aka FOMO. Forming a mobile marketing strategy has many facets to it and we are here to help. Press inquiries: send mail to press@circleclick.com
