Former Austinite Creates Contest Offering Free Lodging to People at SXSW Interactive 2013

February 14, 2013 – San Francisco, CA – Former Austin native Anne A. Ward runs a boutique digital marketing agency in San Francisco, California. After battling with the tenants living in her house in Austin, she decided to not renew their lease expiring the week before SXSW. Ms. Ward decided to do something a little different this year to promote her new venture.

“While worrying about my situation with the house I was also brainstorming ways to promote my business this year at SXSW,” said Ms. Ward. “I knew my expenses were going through the roof preparing the house for new renters, but then I realized… Wait! I have an opportunity rather than a burden. Hotel rooms in Austin during the festival are always in such short supply.”

Ms. Ward then came up with the innovative idea for Winners of the contest are able to stay at the house in Austin for up to 7 days at no cost during the month of March. All participants have to do is submit their ideas and plan to assist in the promotion of her new venture, MobileFOMO, a free mobile marketing resource.

“ felt like a return to Austin’s roots. SXSW used to be a meeting of the minds, where ideas would just flow. Now lit has become a place to hawk your wares. The festival has lost that sense of community and spark of innovation. I want to mobilize a team of talented people and really have fun this year,” said Ward about the reason for the contest.

Winners of the contest will be announced no later than March 1st.

Below is an outline of the contest and rules:

  1. The house is located 6.5 miles from the Austin convention center. This means you can travel to SXSW via bike, public transit, or maybe you can grab a ride? Free parking if you get a rental car.
  2. Free wifi. No wifi = what’s the point?
  3. Free continental breakfast. To make sure you’re getting your day off to a great start someone will be bringing you delicious breakfast tacos or donuts, perhaps both? They can even be vegan or gluten-free. Thank you in advance for not being a pain about it.
  4. A spacious place to sleep. It won’t be glamorously outfitted as I am re-renting it out, but you will definitely have a couch, air mattress, futon or cot – we can do better than the floor! Also towels, soap and a big back yard for when you are not at parties to do your deep thinking or barbecuing in.

Decision on the winner will be made sometime between Feb. 22 and March 1st depending on the responses I get.

Limited time offer. I reserve the right to refuse any entry for any reason. Also, I may accept more than one entrant, so don’t worry if you are flying solo, that’s cool man! You have my assurances that you will be in good company. (I will not be staying at the house, but I will screen everyone properly).

Winners must provide a valid driver’s license, be 21 years of age or older and have three personal references who can assure me you are not a world famous graffiti artist or some kind of serial murderer. No big parties, no Austin locals, no additional overnight guests allowed, no renting the space to others and NO PETS! Any damage made to the property will be your responsibility, intimidating legal mumbo jumbo goes here.

Please remember, you will be staying at my house as a special SXSW guest and I reserve the right to ask you to leave in the event that you totally deserve it. In other words, c’mon be cool, man. Let’s have some fun! Please don’t make me call Bear, my 6′ 10″ cousin.
